UAV Software Updates

UAV Software Updates

The Uconnect 4 radios, like all FCA radio systems, operate the best when at the latest software version.

The software updates are slightly complicated to explain, as some are specific to the manufacture of the vehicle, but we've compiled them in an easy to follow path depending on what vehicle you drive.

These are the updates as they are from Uconnect, they are unaltered and should install just fine unless there's something internally wrong to the radio. If the update fails and hangs on a white screen saying ERROR (And then some kind of number, such as 20) then there is a component in the radio that is failing to be updated and the radio may need to come in for repair. With that being said, installing the software updates provided are to be performed at your own risk. The radio was designed with a failsafe for the time the radio fails the update. It will go into a recovery mode and restore itself to the previous version and should boot up as if the update was never done, this can take 10-30 minutes. Note: If the radio will not go into recovery mode, or if the recovery mode never completes then there is something seriously wrong with the radio and it must be repaired or replaced. If this recovery mode results in the radio not powering down when the vehicle is turned off, please pull the fuse for the radio to prevent the radio from killing the battery. The fuse locations are below.

RAM 1500 DT
This fuse is located in the interior fuse box, which is behind the driver's side kick panel. It's Fuse F44, a 20 AMP Yellow Microfuse. Picture of the fusebox and fuse location below the interior power distribution center panel removal.
This is the 1500 DT Fuse Box

RAM Heavy Duty Series (2500, 3500, 4500, etc.)
The fuse is hidden. It's actually below the fuse box in the engine bay. It will be hidden among some harnesses, and it's inside of a closed rubber capsule like the Grand Cherokee further down in this article. It will be a 20 amp yellow micro fuse. In the photo below, the capsule has been opened for better visibility of the fuse itself.

Grand Cherokee 2014-2021
The fuse is hidden as well, and is located by the battery below the front passenger seat, in a rubber capsule with a thick orange wire running from it. 20 Amp Yellow Micro Fuse

Chrysler Pacifica/Voyager 2017-2021
Located in the fuse box in the engine bay, F76, also a 20 amp yellow micro fuse

Step 1: Find your current application version

The current application version can be accessed it by holding down 3 buttons for 5-10 seconds

The buttons are the hard buttons on your dash, Driver's side TEMP UP (Red Arrow) TEMP DOWN (Blue Arrow) and the FRONT DEFROST button.

Click System Information >> Radio Part Information. In there you will see application version, which will be a bit of a script, but the important details are the USA-(2 letters) Then the Number I'm referencing (Such as 21.9, 22.6, 28.3, 34.2, 39.6)

If you have 21.9 you would see "USA-IR21.9....xxxxxxxx" 22.6 would be "USA-IR22.6....xxxxxxxx" etc.

You need to download the next version that is above what your current version is. The radio will not allow you to install an older version, or the same version it's already on.

Download each of these links (Depending on what version you're currently on) to your desktop of your Windows Computer (Mac's unfortunately don't have the correct USB drive format option, you'd need a program to convert the USB drive to FAT32). You can only put one update on the USB drive at a time.

Plug in your USB drive, It's recommended to have 16GB USB drive, most of these updates are around 1GB. However, the early versions, 21.9 and 22.6 have a map package file, which makes the update about 10GB in size. Right click the USB drive and click quick format, and make sure that FAT32 is selected. Proceed to reformat the USB drive each time you complete an update to load a new one on the drive (if you plan on using the same USB drive for all the updates).
