The Uconnect 4 radios, like all FCA radio systems, operate the best when at the latest software version.
These are the updates as they are from Uconnect; they are unaltered and should install just fine unless there's something internally wrong with the radio. If the update fails and hangs on a white screen saying ERROR (and then some kind of number, such as 20), then there is a component in the radio that is failing to be updated, and the radio may need to come in for repair.
With that being said, installing the software updates provided is to be performed at your own risk. The radio was designed with a failsafe for the time the radio fails the update. It will go into a recovery mode and restore itself to the previous version and should boot up as if the update was never done. This can take 10–30 minutes.
Note: If the radio will not go into recovery mode, or if the recovery mode never completes, then there is something internally wrong with the radio and it must be repaired. If this recovery mode results in the radio not powering down when the vehicle is turned off, please pull the fuse for the radio to prevent the radio from killing the battery. The radio fuse is not in the fuse box; it is actually on a wiring harness by the battery, inside a black rubber capsule. This capsule can be a little tricky to find because it's not something you ordinarily look for in the engine area. This picture is from a RAM 1500, but all vehicles that are capable of having an 8.4" will have that fuse somewhere by the battery (Grand Cherokees and Durangos will have that fuse by the battery under the front passenger seat).
The current application version can be accessed it by holding down 3 buttons for 5-10 seconds
The buttons are the hard buttons on your dash, Driver's side TEMP UP (Red Arrow) TEMP DOWN (Blue Arrow) and the FRONT DEFROST button.
Click System Information >> Radio Part Information. In there you will see application version, which will be a bit of a script, but the important details are the USA-(2 letters) Then the Number I'm referencing (Such as 21.9, 22.6, 28.3, 34.2, 39.6)
If you have 21.9 you would see "USA-IR21.9....xxxxxxxx" 22.6 would be "USA-IR22.6....xxxxxxxx" etc.
Download each of these links (Depending on what version you're currently on) to your desktop of your Windows Computer (Mac's unfortunately don't have the correct USB drive format option, you'd need a program to convert the USB drive to FAT32). You can only put one update on the USB drive at a time.
Plug in your USB drive, It's recommended to have 16GB USB drive, most of these updates are around 1GB. However, the early versions, 21.9 and 22.6 have a map package file, which makes the update about 10GB in size. Right click the USB drive and click quick format, and make sure that FAT32 is selected. Proceed to reformat the USB drive each time you complete an update to load a new one on the drive (if you plan on using the same USB drive for all the updates).

39.6 (This one will only have a folder inside called "VP4R_Update" Just place that folder on the blank USB drive, do not put the whole zipped folder on the drive) After this update finishes, you may see a loading bar on the bottom left part of the screen naming off random applications that you may not have, but it's still firmware for applications that other trim vehicles may have, so please just allow it to finish before you turn the vehicle off.

40.1 (Same file format as above) This one will also have a loading bar, just wait for it to finish before you turn off the vehicle.
At the very end, you should be at CANADA-ASO-8.4-QR-40.1.0-20220821-Q0J0 as the application version in the Dealer Mode "Radio Part Information". Once you are at 39.5 or higher, you can also update the maps on the system if you'd like to purchase a map update through www.navigation.com
