GM Backup Camera Auto Lock Connector

GM Backup Camera Auto Lock Connector

If a customer asks "What is the small, two-pin plug?" (Black and White Wires) This is for the auto tailgate locking mechanism. Customer needs to move the auto lock mechanism over from their factory tailgate handle over to the new tailgate handle from the kit with the backup camera. Once moved over they will plug this two pin connector into the auto locking mechanism. If the auto locking mechanism is not swapping over then the lock on the tailgate will not engage when locking the vehicle.

Troubleshooting:

If a cx reports a grey screen or only grid lines showing when they activate the backup camera, there is either a lose connection or a pin is not making complete contact within the connector. Ask them to check the "dummy plug" connector portion of the harness to be sure the locking tab is still intact and even ask them if they are able to remove the connector from the "dummy plug port" on their own by pulling it gingerly. If they are able to with little to no resistance, the connector's locking tab is defective, and the camera would need to be replaced.
